"Anne Marie Reiss-Zavacky was born in Brussels, Belgium. Her parents emigrated to New York City when she was a small child. She holds a BFA from Queens College of the City of New York and an MFA from The New York Academy of Art.
Anne has always considered herself primarily a painter but a few years ago she begain experimenting with sculpture. Although she loved working in the medium of sculpture it proved to be too limiting for one accustomed to the infinite range of colors available to the painter. After much thought she decided to combine sculpture and painting into one medium, known as "relief painting."
Using poured paper mache Anne casts a model which is then adhered to a wooden panel. The panel is painted to complement the painted model. This technique exploits the best qualities of both paint and sculpture.
